Logo Competition winners announced!

We recently launched a competition to find a design for our project logo. We wanted children to be involved in the process so we sent details of a competition to local schools in Lincoln. We asked for designs to be added to a 10×10 box and that they meet the following two criteria:

1. That they featured something recognisable from Lincoln

2. That they included something that represents childhood in Lincoln

We received some fantastic designs from children of all ages (all of which can be viewed here) but after much debate and discussion amongst the judging panel we eventually decided on our winner. The winning design was developed by Templar Marshall, age 11 who attends Our Lady of Lincoln Primary! He produced this beautiful image that really captures the joy of childhood in Lincoln:CoL logo

Not only has Templar won himself an iPod Shuffle but his logo will also be digitised and used on all of our promotional materials and outputs! Well done Templar and watch this space for the new logo design!

Because the standard of entries was so high we also decided to name some runners up. These were Callie-Mai Hind (10), Caleb-Gerald Ward (7) and Elliot-James Lutton (4), siblings, from Ermine Primary. They produced the image below which really captured the spirit of our project, which is all about giving children a voice about their city and providing them a platform from which they can be heard. The family have won tickets to attend an Imps fixture of their choice – well done!!

Our new official name is Children of Lincoln!

One of our first major tasks for this project was to find a name that best represented what we were trying to achieve with our children’s rights initiative for Lincoln. We recognised that we wanted children in Lincoln to play a major role in helping us to decide on the name. We therefore came up with five different names and asked children from a number of schools in Lincoln to rank them from 1 to 5, with 1 being their least favourite and 5 being their most favourite. The names we asked Lincoln children to rank included:

  • Lincoln’s Children Matter
  • Children Friendly Lincoln
  • Lincoln for Children
  • Creating Children Friendly Lincoln
  • Lincoln City of Children

While Lincoln For Children emerged as a key favourite, one group of children decided they didn’t like any of these names. They suggested a different name instead. Following a new round of consultation, this name proved to be the most popular. With thanks to children in Lincoln our project is now called:

Children of Lincoln

We now need a logo and are currently running a competition for children who attend schools in Lincoln. If you’d like to take part you can find out more here.
